Certified Organic & Biodynamic
Domaine des Ronces is run by 3rd generation vigneron, Kevin Mazier, in the commune of Orbagna. Orbagna is located in the Sud Revermont, and is one of the southernmost villages in the Côtes du Jura. Kevin’s grandfather, Georges, founded the domaine in 1950 and focused on growing Chardonnay and a small amount of Savagnin. By 2010, Michel (Kevin’s father) had grown the domaine to 6ha — adding Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot. Michel also began transitioning to organic farming; a few years later, he and his son, Kevin, began incorporating biodynamic practices as well. Kevin trained in Beaune and Australia before taking over from his father in 2016.
The domaine is now 7ha and has been certified organic (Ecocert - EU) since 2013, and certified biodynamic (Demeter - EU) since 2016. The domaine has some old vines as well as a number of parcels spanning a variety of terroirs, most notably, marl, clay, and limestone. All harvests are done by hand, and all fermentations are done with native yeasts. The domaine makes both topped up (ouillé) and oxidative whites — sometimes ouillé Chardonnay is blended with oxidative Savagnin, as in Cuvée Georges. Reds are de-stemmed using a wicker basket and fermented and aged in stainless steel. Kevin is dedicated to capturing the distinctive qualities of this little corner of the Jura with purity and precision.
