From 2003 to 2022, Cédric Parpette produced a few hundred cases of estate wine from some of the steepest terrain on the hillsides above Ampuis. Previously, the domaine (from his wife’s side of the family), had sold their grapes to négociants — primarily to Guigal. In 2003, Parpette held back the best material from his Montmain parcel (that used to go into Guigal’s La Turque) and began vinifying and bottling his own wine. The 2006 Montmain was the first vintage he produced in commercial quantities, and it received a Coup de Coeur from the Guide Hachette: “a ‘vin rare.’ Already remarkable, this bottle will improve over the next two or three years and can keep for 10 years.”
Cédric tragically passed away in December 2022 at the young age of 49. He was at the height of his career and his death has come as a shock. We remember Cédric as personable, confident, humble, and good-humored. On my last visit with Cédric in December 2021, he expressed pride at his sons’ recent involvement at the domaine. We are presently selling his final vintages and await to hear the status of the domaine.
